Pierre Boulat, photographer for US magazine “Life” was close to Yves Saint Laurent and was able to take pictures of the designer not only during the preparation of his shows but also in the intimacy of his Paris home. He shows us Yves Saint Laurent behind the scenes.

Pierre Bergé, who is particularly fond of this series of photographs, says: “The meeting with Pierre Boulat was a great event. He was with us virtually night and day. We realised that we were building up a memory together.”

Alexandra Boulat, freelance photoreporter and daughter of Pierre Boulat, followed in her father’s footsteps. Present during the run-up to the designer’s last show on 22 January 2002 in the studio at 5 avenue Marceau, she produced a moving eyewitness account of the last days of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house.
